CNN —Belgium will investigate suspected Russian meddling in European Parliament elections after the country’s intelligence services confirmed “pro-Russian interference networks,” Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said on Friday. “The cash payments did not take place in Belgium, but the interference does,” De Croo added. The next elections to the European Parliament will take place from June 6-9, according to the European Council. London —Physicist Peter Higgs, whose theory of an undetected particle in the universe changed science and was vindicated by a Nobel prize-winning discovery half a century later, has died aged 94, the University of Edinburgh said on Tuesday. Higgs described himself as “incompetent” in the physics laboratory at school and at first preferred maths and chemistry. What came to be known as the Higgs boson would solve the riddle of where several fundamental particles get their mass from: by interacting with the invisible “Higgs field” that pervades space. That interaction, known as the “Brout-Englert-Higgs” mechanism, won Higgs and Belgium’s Francois Englert the Nobel prize in physics in 2013. CERN’s massive Large Hadron Collider finally proved to be the sledgehammer needed to crack the nut, and in 2012 two experiments there independently found the Higgs boson.

Clark’s historic round at the famous links course in California included two eagles and nine birdies, giving him a one-shot lead ahead of Sweden’s Ludvig Åberg. London CNN —Intelligence officers in Belgium are monitoring Alibaba’s logistics hub in Europe for possible espionage on behalf of the Chinese government. Belgium’s state security service VSSE told CNN Thursday it was watching the activities of Alibaba’s (BABA) logistics arm, Cainiao, at the country’s Liège cargo airport. “We strongly deny the allegations [which are] based on prior conjecture,” Cainiao told CNN in a statement. CNN —Nick Kyrgios has pulled out of Wimbledon on the eve of this year’s tournament after failing to recover from a wrist injury. “During my comeback, I experienced some pain in my wrist during the week of Mallorca. As a precaution I had it scanned and it came back showing a torn ligament in my wrist. Wimbledon responded to the news by wishing Kyrgios a “swift recovery.”“Hope to see you back on our courts next year,” the tournament tweeted. Novak Djokovic is once again favourite to win the men’s tournament where he can equal Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon men’s titles.
